Happy Friday, Families!
Next week, we will have a special visit from the VT Agency of Transportation in honor of Vermont Plow Day! Maintenance District plow operators will visit our school next Wednesday, 11/17 for the “ceremonial” visit of the newly named Brookside Beast!
Students in wellness classes have created posters to illustrate health and safety practices, see a sampling below!
Vaccination
Parents and guardians can register their children ages 5-11 for vaccinations. HUUSD continues to work with state officials to set up a local clinic. Meanwhile, parents/guardians can register their children for a clinic through the state website. Registration for the vaccine is on the Health Department website. Information about the vaccine for 5-11 year olds can be found on here.
Getting a shot can be stressful and, in some cases, traumatic, especially for children who have special health needs. Confident Care for Kids is here to help parents and caregivers join forces with their child’s pediatric or family practice to create a less stressful vaccination experience.
Visit https://www.vermontfamilynetwork.org/ccfk/ for more information.
Sign up for Response Testing
We continue to work on building our structures to implement the COVID-19 Response testing program for students ages 5 and up.
The program will employ antigen (“rapid”) testing to:
screen unvaccinated, asymptomatic students identified as close contacts at school
provide more immediate information on any symptomatic individual identified at school.
Additionally, this program will allow us to provide immediate PCR tests to symptomatic individuals, resulting in quicker and easier access when this level of testing is required.
To participate in this program, a parent/guardian must complete a two step consent and enrollment process. Each child in your household must be signed up individually.
Provide consent to participate here. SY22 COVID19 Testing Program Consent Form This is a universal consent form from the state.
You need to NEXT register your child to participate using the link below

School Counselor Notes
Hello Brookside Families,
My name is Kately Mosher and I'm the school counselor at Brookside Primary School. School counselors support students in three domains: social emotional wellness, academic support, and career/college readiness. Students access school counseling programming through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual support. I've loved being a part of the BPS community and getting to know our students this year. Part of my role is to ensure I’m accessing all students and providing equitable school counseling services. I hope to start two new groups based on recent student need:
1.) Changing families, this group would meet weekly for 6-8 weeks for students K-4 (if there is enough need I could also run an early elementary group and an older elementary group) going through any sort of family change, separation, divorce, deployment, etc.
2.) 3rd/4th grade affinity group around self identity, inclusivity, and diversity. Based on interest this could be during lunch once a week by grade level or combined grade level meeting once weekly.
To ensure I'm reaching all students/families, please let me know if you are interested in having your student(s) participate in either of these groups. Once I have a list of students, I will meet with each student individually and send home a permission form. As the year continues to progress, I will continue to run various groups. Do not hesitate to reach out anytime by phone or email. Have a great weekend!
Best,
Kately Mosher (Ms. M to our students)

Diaper, Sanitary, Hygiene Product Drive
Rooted Organizing Community (ROC) is a youth-led organization that supports resettled communities and works for social justice in Vermont. This November, the Harwood chapter of ROC is organizing a diaper, sanitary, and hygiene product drive. Any UNOPENED donations of diapers, feminine hygiene products, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, deodorants, aftershave, disposable razors, toothbrushes and toothpastes are accepted. There will be a drop box located in the Brookside Primary School front airlock. All donations go to the USCRI in Colchester, who then distributes the items to recently resettled Vermonters. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! If you have any questions, please contact athurston2022@huusd.org or cfiaschetti2023@huusd.org.
