It's hard to believe that the start of the 22-23 school year is around the corner, but the hum of the cicadas these August evenings are a telltale sign of the weeks ahead.
We hope you've enjoyed adventure this summer - both big and small - and that you look forward to returning to routines, friends, teachers and staff at BPS.
Arrival and Dismissal
One update we wanted to provide right away is an addition to the morning drop-off location. We will be adding a morning drop off in the back of the building, at the entrance to the visitor lot. As demonstrated below, please follow this traffic pattern to alleviate some of the congestion on Stowe Street at morning drop off:
If coming from the north (Waterbury Center), please turn left into the front parking lot and use the drop off circle as usual.
If coming from the south (Waterbury Village), please turn right on High Street. You will turn left onto Armory and can let your child out and staff will cross them to the rear entrance near the visitor lot.
Please let your child out and continue straight, making a left turn onto Hillcrest and exiting to Stowe Street that way. We will be working on an alternative plan for the Hillcrest Terrace closure in the winter months.
A strong start to the year with the drop off routine will ensure that students are able to enter the building safely and keep the line moving efficiently.
Please help us by:
Pulling all the way forward in the loop or line.
Having your child exit curbside with all of their belongings.
Have students ready (backpack on and belongings gathered) for a smooth exit.
Remain IN your car so that the line can continue to move.
On those mornings where there's a little bit of extra baggage, feel free to pull in to the lot where you can take your time, exit the car if needed and ensure a safe transition to the building.
For afternoon pickup, please do not park ON Stowe or High Streets. This creates additional traffic and poses safety concerns for thru traffic and our residential neighbors. Thanks so much for your understanding and partnership!
Family Conferences August 25th
This year all of HUUSD will continue to offer back-to-school conferences. At Brookside this will be a time for families, students and classroom teachers to connect prior to the start of the school year. These conferences will be held on Thursday, August 25th.
For students new to BPS, these conferences will serve as an introduction and opportunity for questions as you make this transition. For students returning they are an opportunity to reconnect and discuss your hopes for the year. Conferences will be approximately 15 minutes in length. With the busy start to the school year, we are only able to offer the conferences on 8/25; we hope that most of you will be able to attend.
We will be using Canyon Creek to help schedule these conferences. Please find the directions to facilitate this process below:
Visit the school’s homepage http://tbps.wwsu.org and select “How Do I” and then select “Schedule a Conference.”
From the Online Scheduler Home Page
Choose your student’s school from the drop down list and click “GO"
Enter the school password bps.
Enter your student’s “Student ID”. If you do not know their Student ID, use the LOOKUP STUDENT ID button to access the system
Verify the student’s birth date
A list of your student’s teachers will be displayed. Check the box next to the name of the teacher you would like to meet with.
If you have more than one student in the school you can see all of your students’ teachers’ schedules at one time by answering YES to this question “Do you want to schedule conferences for another student?” then repeat the steps above for your other students. If you only have one student, answer NO to that question.
You will then see the available time slots for each teacher you selected.
Select the times that work best for your schedule
Enter your email address (recommended) if you would like an email reminder sent to you. (Your email address is kept private.)
Once you have finished you can confirm your appointment details and print your conference schedule.
Write down the Confirmation Number (you will need this number should you need to cancel your appointment)
Need help? Contact the school’s Online Scheduler™ specialist: Michele Ballard mballard@huusd.org or 802-583-8024. The signup window will be open until Tuesday, 8/23.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your children this year. We look forward to a great start on Monday, 8/29!
In Partnership,
