Brookside Blast 1/12/24

Will we ever have a five day week again? Who knows! We hope you enjoyed the snow this week, and as a reminder, school is closed Monday 1/15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr., and closed on Tuesday 1/16 for teacher inservice!

Classes have been enjoying the outdoors so much now that we have fresh snow! Outdoor learning, xc skiing, snowboarding during PE and rocking the new sleds at recess are a few of our favorite things!

As a reminder, progress reports/report cards for the first semester will be emailed home next Thursday, 1/18 for students in K-4. Please review the district letter about interpreting report card data.

Finally, next Thursday 1/18, our entire school will be attending the show Dino World at the Flynn Theater. We will need to depart BPS by 8:30 so it is imperative that your child is on time for school. Please check now to ensure you do not have any appointments scheduled; if your child arrives at school after 8:30 they will have missed the busses and there will not be anyone in the building until our return around 12 noon. Thanks in advance for your support with this!

Have a wonderful 4-day weekend and we'll see you back on Wednesday!

Best,

Sarah & Chris

Drawings will start soon for the PTO Calendar Raffle!

The Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) at Crossett Brook Middle School and Brookside Primary School are excited to bring this popular fundraiser to our community! With the support of local businesses, we offer you the Calendar Raffle. See the list of amazing businesses that have donated prizes below.

A ticket is just $10 and there are over 80 prizes worth a total of over $9,300! This crucial fundraiser allows our PTOs to offer a variety of programs that enrich our students' lives, including field trips, athletics, teacher grants, and much more!

Please buy your tickets now! There are 3 ways to buy tickets (and all three ways benefit BOTH PTO's):

1. From the CBMS PTO website at http://cbmspto.com/online-store

2. Find a student and ask to buy paper tickets.

3. Stop by the school office where they have tickets you can buy.

We will draw winners for every prize throughout the month of February. We will notify the winner directly and announce it on Front Porch Forum. Questions can be directed to cbmspto@huusd.org

A HUGE THANK YOU to our local businesses for sponsoring prizes and going above and beyond this year to contribute our most valuable collection of prizes ever.

COMMUNITY POSTINGS

Please note that the opportunities/events listed below are not specifically endorsed or screened by school staff. As always, families should use their own standards and review processes to determine appropriate activities.

In the spring, the Mad River Valley Soccer Association provides a competitive soccer experience for players from the Mad River Valley and Waterbury areas. The Spring Travel program participates in the Vermont Soccer League.  The first game is held on the first weekend in May, and the last game is typically in mid-June.  Teams practice at Mad River Park, with typically two practices per week.

Registration for spring travel soccer is now open through February 10th, 2024. There is no guarantee of a spot after registration closes.

Mad River Valley Soccer Association participates in the Vermont Soccer League through the Vermont Soccer Association (VSA). VSA is a US Youth Soccer organization. All USYS rules are followed: each player must provide proof of age (birth certificate or passport) and a picture.

Teams are based on BIRTH YEAR, not school grade. For example, a 4th grader born in 2013 would play U12, while a 4th grader born in 2014 would play U10.

o    U10: 2014-2015

o    U12: 2012-2013

o    U14: 2010-2011

o    U16: 2008-2009

Coaches will create rosters if we have multiple teams in an age group.

We encourage multisport athletes to play spring soccer. We ask that all players make at least one practice per week and most games. While we try to hold practices on alternate days, we are limited by field space and field availability.

Scholarships are available.
