Brookside Blast 10/27/23

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

Happy Friday!

We've enjoyed a balmy week at Brookside with unseasonably warm temps! Learners enjoyed outdoor learning adventures, a field trip to the Flynn, and classroom-earned PBIS celebrations!

Speaking of celebrations, we are excited to share that students have been working hard this fall to earn their first school-wide PBIS reward, to celebrate the safe, kind and responsible choices students are making at school! We will have a color parade (similar to the rainbow parade last fall) on Friday, November 3rd from 8:30am-9:00am. We will walk through the neighborhood, and each grade will be assigned a color. Classes are encouraged to get creative and make signs, hats, etc. with their grade level color. If caregivers and families are able to, we encourage you to watch the parade on Stowe Street.

Please see the colors below:

PreK & Kindergarten: Red

1st Grade: Orange

2nd Grade: Yellow/Gold

3rd Grade: Green

4th Grade: Blue

(We have extra shirts in all colors that students can borrow if needed.)

Thank you for supporting your student and the BPS community, for more information about PBIS click here.

A friendly reminder that despite the excitement and outside of school celebrating that occurs in the spirit of Halloween (Tuesday 10/31), for a variety of reasons (creating an inclusive environment, maintaining routine and stability for students, ensuring students aren’t scared by one another’s costume choices) Halloween costumes/celebrations are NOT part of BPS. Thanks for your support in this!

PTO Notice of Special Meeting

The Brookside PTO will hold a special meeting on Thursday 11/2/23 at 6:30 pm in the BPS Library. We will be appointing people to roles/officer positions and briefly amending the bylaws to allow us to do this properly in the middle of the school year.

Please plan to attend or reach out to Sarah Schoolcraft at sschoolcraft@huusd.org ASAP with any questions.

Helping to Keep Our School Clean

Our playground has been unusually muddy this fall due to all the rain. We will be discussing with the students ways to show respect during our All School Morning Meeting, next Wednesday morning. One of the ways that we can show respect, especially to our custodians, is to keep mud out of the classrooms. We are asking for your support in helping your child to have a pair of boots or outdoor shoes and then a clean pair of shoes to wear in the classrooms. If your child needs some outdoor shoes/boots, please contact Sarah Schoolcraft. Thanks in advance for your support.

PE News

We are continuing our sports based ball skills and game concepts this next week with soccer skills and concepts. Again, PreK-2 are mostly working on skill development, grades 3&4 are reviewing skills and applying game concepts in small-sided games.

If your child enjoyed learning about basketball this past week, you may still sign up for Harwood Youth Basketball this weekend. Please email brian.godfrey@mmuusd.org to register.
