Brookside Blast 10/6/23

Happy long weekend! We hope you are able to enjoy some extended "down" time this weekend as the rain brings many of those bright leaves off their branches.

Mrs. Burns captured this gorgeous photo Friday morning!

This week at our October All School Morning Meeting, we discussed signs of fall and upcoming fall celebrations/dates of note. This will become a routine part of our monthly All School Morning Meetings, which is an opportunity for us to gather as a community and share in celebration and learning.

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, October 9th in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day (formerly Columbus Day). This is a national holiday and we will not have school. Here are some resources and information to share at home.

BPS PTO - FIRST MEETING!

Counseling Update It is hard to believe we have entered the month of October. There are many exciting things happening in the school counseling program this month. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, we will be pushing into classrooms teaching lessons school wide throughout the month.

This past Monday October 2, 2023, there was a safety drill. Mr. Neville and Ms. Schoolcraft sent out information to caregivers and families. As a reminder, please do not hesitate to reach if you need more information and support around the topic of safety drills at home. Make sure to check out the comfortship website. We hope you have a great weekend! Kately Mosher Ashley Bergeron

BPS Chorus

BPS Chorus will start on October 17th. Chorus is a singing group that rehearses once a week before school for 3rd and 4th grade students. If your child loves music or singing and would like to have more of it in their week, they should come to the first few rehearsals to see what it is like. Students may come without committing to the group during this trial period. If they decide they want to join chorus for the year, they can get a permission slip at one of the rehearsals and return it by November 17th* to officially be on the roster.

Chorus Rehearsal Schedule:

3rd Grade - Tuesdays from 7:40-8:10 starts 10/17

4th Grade - Blue Thursdays/Gold Fridays from 7:40-8:10, starts Friday 10/20

Please contact epalumbo@huusd.org with any questions or concerns.

*This has been changed from 11/22.

PE Updates PreK-2 are doing overhand throwing stations this week and next. If you get a chance to practice throwing with your child over the long weekend, ask them what a good overhand throw looks like. We have been throwing bean bags, footballs, foxtails, yarn balls and rockets!

Grades 3&4 are learning to play pickleball this week and next. If you get a chance over the long weekend, check out and play some pickleball at the town tennis courts.

PE Expectations:

All students are expected to wear sneakers and to bring a water bottle to PE. This is both an expectation for safety and responsibility. If sneakers/closed toe shoes are a need for your child, please reach out to Sarah Schoolcraft sschoolcraft@huusd.org

Thanks in advance for your support. Carol Baitz
